Laxton held its first History Day on 28th June 2009. The
day featured talks from Professor John Beckett from Nottingham University, a
vintage ploughing match which attracted 70 ploughmen, 3 horse teams and 12
horticultural tractors, tractor and trailer rides round the village, a guided
walk to the motte and bailey castle and village, tours of the church, which
dates in part to the 12th century, a display from the newly formed Laxton Local
History Group and guest organisations.
WAG Screen attended to thank Laxton for the help extended
in filming both the 'Luttrell Psalter' and 'The Lady of Shallot'. They brought
their costumes and props from the former film and also their replica 14th
century plough. Everyone was thrilled when one of the ploughmen with a horse
team agreed to hitch it up to his horses, Alison and Emily, and give it a try in
te soli for the first time since it featured on Channel 4's 'Time Team'.
The event raised £2,200 for St Michael's Church.
